The centrally located district of Hamirpur was created in 1972, by carving it our from the Kangra district. It lies at a lower elevation and has warm climate as compared to other districts of the state. Hamirpur district is connected with good road network and its immense tourist potential still lies untapped.
Hamirpur:
The historic town of Hamirpur is the headquarters of the district and lies on Shimla – Dharamshala road. Hamirpur was the part of medieval Jallandhar-Trigarta empire and was associated with the rulers of Katoch dynasty, who became verry powerful under the rule of Raja Hamir Chand (1700 – 1740). Raja Hamir Chand also built a fort here and the town came to be known as Hamirpur after his.

Deot Sidh Temple:
The sacred ‘Sidh Peeth’ is one of the most important pilgrim centres of the State and is the abode of Sidh Baba Balak Nath. The cave temple of Shri Baba Balak Nath ji is located on the border of Bilaspur (70 kms.) and Hamirpur (44 kms.). It is well connected by road and is visited by millions of devotees around the year. Devotees flock in large numbers, especially on ‘Sankrantis’, Sundays and the sacred Navratras. From mid-March to mid-July, the pilgrim centre is at is best as local deities from nearby villages are brought to the ‘Sidhpeeth’ in palanquins in a colourful procession. The main sanctum of the massive temple complex is a nature cave shrine called as ‘Gufa’, where called as ‘Thara’ is the main site of worship. The new temple is built in ‘Shikhara’ style near the Shiva temple towards the ‘Charan Paduka’. Other important shrines of the temple complex are of Radha Krishna, Bharatrihari and Sidh Durga. The ‘Langer Bhawan’ near Bhartrihari temple and the ‘Matha’- about one kilometre from the ‘Gufa’ are some of the sacred sites of archaeological importance within the temple complex. Devotees visit the ‘Samadhis’ of the ‘Mahantas’ of ‘Giri sect’ – the lineage of the ‘Gurus’ of Baba Balak Nath ji, over here, which concludes their holy piligrimage. The nearest airport of Deot Siddh is Chandigarh, about 120 kms. While the nearest railhead is at Una (50 Kms.).
Sujanour Tira:
This historic and religious centre lies 22 kms. from Hamirpur town. It was founded by Raha Abhay Chand, a Katoch ruler in 1748. The fort and palaces here reflect the glory of the bygone era. The annual fair of Held in a huge ground here for 4 days. There are five old temples of which Gauri Shankar, Murli Manohar, Narbadeshwar are the most important. Sujanpur Tira is also known for its Sainlk school and is considered ideal for adventure sports like paragliding, angling, rafting and trekking.
